Short sea shipping can provide an alternative, more sustainable solution to moving goods across Europe than a purely road-based approach, according to FTA, the business organisation representing the logistics industry. FTA is thrilled to be supporting the 2020 Coastlink Conference to help logistics leaders to identify new, innovative ways to use this mode of transport.

To be held on 13 and 14 May 2020, the two-day conference will take place at The Port House in the Port of Antwerp, Europe’s second largest seaport. The conference will consist of presentations from expert speakers and lively panel discussions, with a focus on building connectivity between short sea shipping and intermodal networks.

FTA’s Head of Multimodal Policy, Alex Veitch, will be chairing the panel discussion, Joining the Dots: Connecting short sea shipping with other modes, he comments: “FTA is delighted to support this event and be at the forefront of discussions to develop a truly interconnected short sea network. With Europe’s roads becoming increasingly congested, there is a growing demand among logistics businesses for sustainable alternatives when transporting goods across the continent. With lower carbon emissions and transportation costs, short sea shipping offers an ideal solution.

In attendance will be representatives of short sea shipping companies and their agents, intermodal operators, shipbrokers, ports and freight operators, as well as forwarding and logistics companies.

Bookings for the event are now open at a cost of £535 per delegate. If booking before the 31 January 2020, you will be eligible to receive the 15% early bird discount on this price. From 01 February 2020 FTA members will receive a 10% discount on bookings with the promocode: FTA2020

Efficient logistics is vital to keep the UK trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
